Mammograms remain the most effective breast cancer screening tool available today, and encouraging regular screening is a vital responsibility for public health officials. However, mammography is not without limitations. Both false-negative and false-positive results can occur, often influenced by the quality of the images the system can produce. Additionally, achieving high-quality images typically requires a higher-than-ideal radiation dose.
Most modern X-ray detectors rely on a photoconductor called amorphous selenium (a-Se). While effective, a-Se is costly to manufacture and still requires elevated radiation levels to deliver diagnostic-quality images. We believe quantum dots can play a transformative role in this industry – improving the quality and accuracy of mammography while simultaneously reducing costs for medical facilities and hospitals.
By integrating quantum dots directly and seamlessly into existing X-ray detectors, our technology can deliver lower radiation doses without compromising image quality. This means safer imaging procedures for patients, combined with high resolution and enhanced sensitivity. The exceptional sensitivity of quantum dot–based detectors allows them to capture even the faintest X-ray signals, ultimately improving both the accuracy and reliability of diagnostic results.
