QDI systems and Allied Vision Partner on QD-Based SWIR Sensors – Driving the Transition Beyond InGaAs

QDI systems, a pioneer in quantum dot imaging technology and Allied Vision, a leading provider of industrial cameras and machine vision solutions announced a strategic partnership to advance next-generation SWIR (Short-Wave Infrared) imaging based on QD (Quantum Dot) sensors. The collaboration aims to accelerate the transition from traditional InGaAs-based SWIR sensors to a new class of QD sensors, delivering comparable performance while significantly improving cost, size, and weight characteristics. This breakthrough is expected to unlock new opportunities, particularly in industrial applications and drone-based imaging systems.

A New Standard in SWIR Imaging

QD-based SWIR sensors offer several key advantages over conventional InGaAs technology:

  • Substantially lower cost through scalable semiconductor manufacturing
  • Reduced size and weight, enabling compact and mobile system designs
  • Seamless integration into existing camera platforms
  • Improved accessibility of SWIR technology for a broader range of applications

‘Partnering with QDI systems allows us to bring SWIR imaging to a much wider market’ said André Kruse, Chief Operations Officer at Allied Vision. ‘By combining our camera expertise with QDI’s innovative sensor technology, we enable our customers to move beyond the limitations of InGaAs —both technically and economically.’

Enabling New Applications in Industry and Aerial Imaging

The joint solutions will deliver clear benefits across multiple high-growth segments:

  • Industrial inspection (e.g., material analysis, moisture detection, sorting)
  • Drone and UAV applications, where payload weight and power efficiency are critical
  • Security and surveillance systems

‘With QD technology, we significantly lower the barriers to adopting SWIR imaging,’ added Artem Shulga, CEO and founder of QDI systems. ‘Together with Allied Vision, we are accelerating the commercialization of this technology and making high-performance SWIR solutions more accessible than ever before.’
