QDI systems receives the Take-off phase 2 grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) for the project "Quantum dot inks for direct conversion X-ray detectors".

Abstract

Our project relates to a novel material to manufacture large-area photoconductors for X-ray detection applications. Our material comprises quantum dots – semiconducting nanocrystals made from lead sulphide. QDI systems’ quantum dot technology enable multiple benefits to X-ray imaging market players, most importantly a dose reduction to patients during an X-ray imaging exam, which is enforced by regulatory guidance. Further, imaging devices built from quantum dot inks outperform competing technologies in terms of image resolution and contrast. And lastly, our technology allows fabrication of an X-ray detector with only a fraction of costs compared to state-of-the-art devices. QDI systems is devoted to the development of a platform technology. Our developments in X-ray sensitive photoconductive quantum dot inks are directly expanded into near infrared/visible light detection, and potentially to solar energy conversion, thermoelectric, near-infrared LEDs applications. The aim of this project is to further develop the University of Groningen spin-off company into an attractive opportunity for future VC investment for the growth phase.
